World Autism Awareness Day!

Today is World Autism Awareness Day which seeks to recognize and celebrate the rights of persons with autism. Specifically, persons with autism have the right to “self-determination, independence and autonomy, as well as the right to education and employment on an equal basis with others”. https://www.un.org/en/observances/autism-day

Children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are not easily identifiable except that they may communicate, interact, behave, and learn in ways that are different from most other people. https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/autism/facts.html

Autism does not prevent affected persons from achieving their goals. Some famous persons who have accomplished their goals include Temple Grandin (Activist for Animal Rights, Autism and Health Issues), Dan Aykroyd (Actor in Ghostbusters I & II) and Susan Boyle (Musician after appearing on Britain’s Got Talent).

Other famous and inspiring persons considered to be autistic include Albert Einstein, Scientist & Mathematician; Steve Jobs, Former CEO of Apple; and Sir Isaac Newton, Mathematician, Astronomer & Physicist. https://www.appliedbehavioranalysisprograms.com/historys-30-most-inspiring-people-on-the-autism-spectrum/
